Attend a Meeting of the Advisory Committee

The Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services announced the appointment of 20 nationally recognized experts in food and nutrition to serve on the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Committee has met five times to examine the science related to the topics and questions on nutrition and health identified by the Departments, and will hold another meeting to discuss its draft advisory report before it is finalized and submitted to USDA and HHS. All Committee meetings are open to the public; two meetings included an opportunity for the public to provide oral comments to the Committee.

Advisory Committee Meeting Dates

We encourage the public to stay engaged and participate in the Dietary Guidelines development process. One way to do this is by attending a public meeting of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee or viewing an archived webcast from prior meetings.

* Please note these dates are subject to changes. All dates and locations will be confirmed at least 15 days prior to each meeting.

Oral Comments to the Advisory Committee

Meetings 2 and 4 included opportunities for the public to provide oral comments to the Committee. The public can still provide written comments to the Committee through the ongoing public comment period, which opened on March 12, 2019. This comment period will remain open until June 10, 2020. Please visit the Submit A Comment page to learn more.

Past Advisory Committee Meetings

Information from past meetings of the 2020 Advisory Committee, including meeting materials and archived webcasts, can be found on the meetings page.

Oral Comments to USDA and HHS

The Committee’s work will end once it delivers its final advisory report to the Departments by the end of June. Once the Committee delivers its advisory report, USDA and HHS will post the report online on or around July 15, 2020 for public comment. On Tuesday, August 11, 2020, USDA and HHS will hold an oral public comment meeting to hear comments from the public on the Committee’s advisory report. Registration to present oral comments will be announced on this page. USDA and HHS will consider the Committee’s advisory report, along with public and agency comments, as the Departments develop the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines.
